Hrísdalur is a horse farm in Snæfellsnes about 140 km (about 1,5 hours drive) northwest from Reykjavík. The farm operates under the name HRÍSDALSHESTAR and specialises in training and breeding Icelandic horses.  The farm is around 900 hectars in beautiful landscape by the salmon fishing river Straumfjarðará.  Hrísdalur is close to Löngufjörur, the spectacular white sandbeach that lies along the southern coast of Snæfellsnes. The beach is considered to be one of the best riding tracks in Iceland, leading towards Snæfellsjökull, the setting for Jule Verne's Journey to the Center of the earth.

In Hrísdalur we breed horses from first class mares and stallions from top breeding.  The breeding was started 4 years ago.  About 8-10 foals are born each year at the farm.  For further information on the breeding see the horse breeding page here on the site.

We also operate horse training for up to 30 horses in a new stable where we train our own horses as well as taking in horses from other owners. Siguroddur Pétursson, a member of the Icelandic Trainers Association, and his wife Ásdís Ó. Sigurðardóttir, are the chief trainers, and they also take care of the daily operations of the farm.  For photos from the horse meeting at Kaldármelar,  (the meeting place for Fjórðungsmót 2009), click here.

The farm is owned by Guðrún Margrét Baldursdóttir and Gunnar Sturluson who take active part in the operation but live in Reykjavík and spend their weekends working at the farm.  For photos of Hrísdalur click here.
